Twitch is the world’s leading social video platform and community for gamers. The company was founded in 2011 and has been growing steadily ever since. The internal team continues to expand in order for Twitch to keep pace with consumer demand, but competition is fierce for skilled talent. Grain & Mortar was asked to partner with Twitch to develop a website dedicated to recruiting engineers.

Say More with Less

Initial plans outlined a multi-page website. Through our flowchart and wireframe process, we consolidated the content into a streamlined one-page experience with rich interactions.

High-Functioning Help Wanted

The beating heart of this website was the “open positions” section, so we made sure it was user-friendly, easy to browse, and sortable in a variety of categories. Job data was aggregated from Lever, and we used their json API to keep this section updated without interrupting Twitch’s workflow.

Custom Delight

We created customized icons to represent each of Twitch’s engineering teams.

Pixel Perfect, Picture Perfect

This site was a perfect opportunity to take advantage of an HTML5 tag called “picture,” which provides a highly efficient method for loading images. We created several optimized versions of each image that load based on the device being used.

Ready for Anything

We used multiple animations to demonstrate Twitch’s growth. Our challenge was to ensure that each animated statistic functioned regardless of the device or the connection. By using Canvas, SVG, and GIF, we were able to deliver animation that worked anywhere, on any device.
