Facebook designed Quill to empower artists and creators, providing a different style of hands-on illustration and animation. They knew once people could see some of the possibilities, creativity would ignite — that’s when they came to Grain & Mortar to create an educational site, showcasing case studies and tutorials.
Taking our lead from the white, blank canvas that starts a Quill app session, we focused on a great amount of white space with clean, simple icons. Aiming at subtle hints to the potential of the app, we applied a hover technique for links that rotate through colors and box shadows to bring dimension. The development of the site also allowed us to try our hand at using a Jekyll/GitHub integration, bringing yet another development platform into our repertoire.
