Walthill Public School is a PreK-12 school in Walthill, Nebraska that is proudly part of the Omaha Reservation. The school is nearly 100% Native American, with a melting pot of indigenous backgrounds. Begun in 1906, the official school building came into existence in 1908 and has been added onto, remodeled, and expanded as needed over the years. The school began working to plan and build a new facility that will provide a safe and welcoming environment for the students as well as a centralized hub for the community for after-school activities. Working with our friends at BCDM architects, along with many other partners on the project, this all encompassing plan will include not only a new visual identity but a completely refreshed brand that will eventually be applied to every conceivable application – gym murals, environmental graphics, digital properties, printed collateral and more.
But the brand is where it all begins. The school is truly the center of the small town and there is a lot of Blujay sentiment in Walthill. (Accidentally spelling Blujay with an “e” will get you a look!) The new brand needed to give honor to the school’s past legacy – who’s demographic looked significantly different prior to the white flight that occurred in the 90s – while looking toward the bright future ahead.
